Lazy by day

POETICbug_atozchallenge

POETICbug_Lazy by day

Fixed to the black foam chair,
Look at the dull beeping monitor,
Fingers, now well trained for their daily role play,
Run on the keyboards, faster,
And my resume firmly declares,
I am lazy by day, creative after.

POETICbug_Keep in touch

She sits on the armchair, holding her phone,
A routine to follow every Saturday,
Waiting cautiously to hear the phone ring,
So much to speak about the whole week,
Never to miss, a promise she made,
To her dear child when s/he left.

Jump back in time

POETICbug_Jump back in time

When envelopes carried emotions
and typewriters wrote stories,
When the landline was our lifeline,
and dictionaries helped with meanings,
I wish to jump back to those times
when life paused to say Hello.

POETICbug_Intoxicated by you

Dressed in the simplest drapes, all fine,
You dance to your carefree self,
No heels, no gloss, no danglers on,
Just you, your pleasant beauty,
I need no rum,no wine,
I am, forever intoxicated.

Here and There

POETICbug_atozchallenege

I thought ~
What could I write with a blank, tired mind?
Joining few couplets here and there,
Juggling with words, merely rare,
Loosely compiling all together,
I create a verse, fairly sober.

Getting over you

POETICbug_Getting over you

I still have that cupboard we bought together,
Only, your side has empty hangers,
The oversize photo frame hanging in the living room,
Constantly gives me a cold blank look,
I try not to face the vacant side of the bed now ,
Only if getting over you was that easy for me to do.

Food

POETICbug_atozchallenge

Bare necessity for thousands,
Luxury of choices for obvious others,
When for some it just keeps you up on your feet,
For so many it is their passion, their devotion,
Hot,cold,sweet,sour,spicy,bitter and more,
Food, the source, the reason for all.

Ephemeral worries

POETICbug_Ephemeral worries

Adding and subtracting numbers,
Searching rivers and mountains on a paper,
Trying to understand - plants do breathe,
And memorizing those kings and queens,
When homework was the only difficulty in life,
The ephemeral worries of childhood

Drawer of fear

POETICbug_Drawer of fear

Calculating cumulatively this entire life,
Apprehensive about everything all this while,
In dearth of a little courage,
I walked quite a long compromising mile,
Now out from the closed drawer of fear,
I decide on to take life in smaller bites.

Change

POETICbug_Change

Its inevitable; I know it,but...
From cozy hometown to others' cities,
From flats, jobs, clothes, shoe price,
My behaviour, feelings, age otherwise,
Nothing is same, the last time I checked,
Everything has been consumed by change.

Beside you

Looking at the rising aeroplanes,
From the other side of the barbed wall,
Holding your hand, gently tight,
I dreamt of going around the world,
And how peaceful, it always was,
Sitting on the park chair, beside you.

Alive

Every moment of silent breathing,
Yet, not turned into ashes this morning,
Walking past without a pause,
Shrugging off the desired halt,
To touchdown upon what you want,
Not just thrive but be alive.

Rugged Blue Cap

( For the parents who are “Grand”, our Grandparents)

I stood counting the grains of sand,
As the wind kept adding more,
A blink's sleep to my eye,
Came in nature's furious furore,
Howling loud,
Gulping throughout,
Notorious monster,
That smirking cloud.

A little leaf trembling,
Fallen off her mother,
Held by a pebble,
A friend to one another,
The lazy sand,
Swirled all over,
Broke a wheel,
A tent, kettle and a tumbler.

An old rugged blue cap,
Was stomped, yet it dared,
To reach its master,
Lost somewhere,
"Wait", I hear someone call,
Emerged from the gust,
Bravery in its form small,
He strongly said, "I must".

"I must get the cap",
Racing against the wind,
In an unlimited lap,
That determined mind,
I called him aloud and asked,
Why do you brave this gale?
"It belongs to my Grandpa,
Sitting there paralysed and pale."

"He always got me my candy,
All better he was when"
A year of silence,
Passed through me then,
The sand, wind and its fury,
Touched by his innocent love,returned,
But Grandpa continued staring above.

Sunrise or Sunset

This poem has won the "Prompt of the month (march 2015)" at WE magazine and published in the March 2015 Issue.

What I see is bright,
I know not if it's right,
Sunrise or Sunset ?
But it's beauty, nature's subset,
Why the hue goes so orange
when the sun arrives or goes out of range ?
I could question so much, but;
Why add "why" to this beauty?
When it’s so blissful;
It’s serenity.
Some things, best not described,
'cause the effect gets inscribed,
A rising sun has to set,
For the moon to attend its date,
There goes a romantic verse,
It could be for him or hers,
If I could, I would
go on stringing,
a necklace of words,
But it’s time to return home,
So say the birds.

{ This poem is written for the prompt of the month (March) @ Writer's Ezine. When I saw this image, I first thought it was sunset and then thought, sunrise. So knocking the confusion, I concentrated to write on the beauty alone blending with the romantic season around. }

Love you, evermore

It's winter time here in India during February. And it was this time of the year a decade ago when a journey from friendship to courtship had begun which now has moved into marriage. Since my husband and I would be celebrating 10 years this year, to that moment in winter when we confessed our feelings, my mind is full of those memories. Thank you Poetry Jam for giving this prompt.

Wintry evening stroll so nice,
Holding her hand,
He said, stuttering thrice,
“That feeling in you,
Is a part of mine,
On this day and forever,
Will you be my Valentine?”

For her, the world stood still,

The cold breeze kissed her face,
Asked her to commit a yes.

Standing under the single lit lamp-post

Quietly for minutes, so long,
She said, fighting the frost,
“This feeling in me,
Is a part of you, I know,
Since this day, until eternity,
I would love you, evermore.”

For the Indian Bride

Sometimes I think and mostly do not,
Sometimes it bothers or may be not,
When the question,
That inevitable one,
Sooner or later, it arrives,
From the moment I am promoted as a wife.
My wedding make up is still not gone,
The woman in me yet to be turned on,
Only yesterday I had my first night,
And today both sides expect a news delight!
Let me know him, feel him, want him
O! Love him right;
Then for few others,
This skips for a year, two, three or five,
One sunny day, rainy day or wintry night,
“What was she doing all this while?”
Comes up a statement surprise;
“Or maybe she is barren”
A taunt so harsh might arise;
I think hard, I think wise,
What was I doing all this while?
I married, I loved, I worked and I stuffed,
I aspired, struggled and really tired,
I saved; I spent, no holiday yet,
I shifted; I drifted, lost and found,
My irritation, pain, frustration aloud,
So many worries and I thrive,
How could I carry in me a ‘life’?
When, How, Where and Why?
Somehow I didn't do it, anyway,
No reason, no fuss, no fear,
I will give nothing for excuse,
Because I do not refuse,
Yes, I do not,
I do desire,
Of growing fat without bother,
Of eating whatever I gather,
Of getting pampered, rather,
Of motherhood, that would never wither,
But I will not have it for another,
For no force, no pressure, no mockery,
would my womb give in to so easily,
When she is ready,
She would whisper to me,
With my partner in hand,
I would home you my baby.

( Motherhood needs to be a decision of the couple involved and not a forced rule of the family (both sides) , by large. This poem is just another viewpoint on that.  )

State of Confusion

I could be so much more than 'me',
Only if I take a firm step and not wee,
So what if I try and fail,
Atleast I will have a story to tell,
To those in the same state of confusion,
Lead a life that has a reason.

Just a Pen in hand

In a dark, so silent lonely night,
Writing is that friend, an absolute delight,
Sometimes in just a line or two,
Or phrases, paragraphs, poetry too,
Emotions clenched inside, mighty tight,
Just a pen in hand and all expressions right.
